Masquerade

Watching as the play unfolds
take your seat amidst dark souls

All of us stars in life's charade
truth bends like branches in the shade

Men in black pretend to pray
beyond the cloth the wolf will stray

Trusting neighbor, Trusting friend
a masquerade that soon shall end

Lies are truth and truth are lies
beware the actors of disguise

  1. ugh, "Trusting neighbor, Trusting friend
a masquerade that soon shall end" recently had to deal with this... it's hard finding trustworthy people nowadays

  2. So often it seems lies are truth and truth is a lie. So many people are 'actors' rather than reality based. It is really hard to know the difference sometime, isn't it?

    1. Hi Mary-Sadly, I think it can be hard to know whats going behind the eyes of many. I think we've all had those experiences when we learn not everyone is trust worthy.

  6. That couplet, "Lies are truth and truth are lies/beware the actors of disguise" was a powerful bit. This world certainly sees too much deception.

    1. No worries Claudia-just not naive like I use to be. I gave so many people in my life so many chances when they wronged me-after a cancer diagnosis ten years ago, I started to have the courage to face the truth.

  10. I specially like the ending - so bitterly true:

Lies are truth and truth are lies
    beware the actors of disguise

Truly said Linda! One can never be safe just by being nice and natural. There is someone just waiting to sneak in on us. Truth certainly is elusive! Nicely!
